Hi all,
I've been up all night, just got my windows 10 pro, creators update,
version 1709 done for me, by my computer guy, Rick.
However, I did some other things to make the computer more blind
friendly, as I usually do, every time I get windows installed.
However, there was 1 very bad thing for me as a blind user. When I put
it to sleep, and then pressed a key to wake it up, it kept on making me
have to sign in.
Now folks, I've used sleep mode ever since I heard about it in windows
7, and it has *CHANGED*, the life of this computer user!!!!
A couple hours ago, I said to myself, "if I have to sit here, and wait
30 seconds for this thing to boot up every time," (in sleep mode you
only wait no more than 4 seconds, and you're computer is ready to do
your bidding), "I will get rid of this computer, today!"
The last thing a disabled person wants to have to do all the time is,
ask for help! This is not a pride thing, but people only can be asked
for help so much, and then, the helper says, "I'm done helping you,
you've asked enough, get lost!"
So, instead of calling Rick, at 5 in the morning, I did some serious
digging, using google.
I typed
how to stop having to sign in when computer comes out of sleep mode
There are a bunch of results there, but I found one, and tried something
I never did before, and folks, *IT WORKED*, it worked, and as I always
do, yours truly, did a write up on how to do this, and if you have a
windows 10 pro computer, congratulations, you can do this, all by
yourself, and not have to ask a sighted person to do this for you!
I cannot tell you all the joy I feel right now, but as we all know on
this list, you all know how it feels to be able to do something
independently, and that's how I feel right now.
So, below, is the right up, use it, it works, I just did it, I did these
exact steps!
But with a write up like this, especially this one, because this is
having to do with turning your computer on, out of sleep mode I have to
put a disclaimer in.
Disclaimer, I take no responsibility for what happens to someones
computer, so, do this at your own risk.
how to keep windows 10 from requiring that you sign in when coming out
of sleep mode
note--you must have Windows 10 pro, and not home, because this step by
step procedure *ONLY* works with Windows 10 pro.
Now there is a much easier way to do this, but in settings a blind
computer user cannot click on require, so, the group policy way is the
only way that will work for us.
Do the following:
step 1. Press the windows key, and the letter r
step 2. Now, type
gpedit.msc
step 3. Now, tab down to OK and press spacebar or enter to open the
local group policy editor.
step 4. Now, down arrow to computer configuration, and if it's closed,
press right arrow to open it.
step 5. Now, down arrow to administrative templates, and if it's closed,
right arrow 1 time to open it.
step 6. Now, down arrow to system, and if it's closed, press right arrow
1 time to open it.
step 7. Now, down arrow to power management, and if it's closed, press
right arrow 1 time to open it.
step 8. Now, press the letter s, and it should say sleep settings, and
you now press the tab key 1 time, and you are in a list of things.
step 9. Now, down arrow to require a password when a computer wakes
(plugged in), and press enter.
Don't worry, you will not be telling windows to require a password on
wakeup, but you have to press enter to click on that, so stick with me, ok?
step 10. Now, tab down to a series of 2 radio buttons. There is one that
says enabled, and there is one that says disabled, and that's what we
want to do, we want to disable this rediculous requirement in Windows to
sign in everytime your computer comes out of sleep mode.
step 11. use your up and down arrows to find the disabled button
step 12. Now, tab down to apply, and press spacebar or enter.
step 13. Now, tab down to ok, and press spacebar or enter.
You now have told Windows 10 pro, *NOT* to require you to sign in, when
your computer comes out of sleep mode.
