Depending on how you've configured your iTunes library, it typically adds a
subdirectory in your "my music" folder (users/usrname/music/iTunes") . It
could very from OS to OS. In XP, it's under "my documents." The best way to
look is by going to Edit/preferences/advanced.

Where does it store its retrieved podcasts??
Yes, it's interface is a vast improvement over the 7 series.
