Ok Rachel let me give this a try.

I am the owner of the victor reader stream from Humanware. This is a player
that will play DAISY books including ones you can find on Book Share Of
course I don't use it this way. I download NLS DTB books in DAISY format.

Of course the stream is quite versatile and can play MP3 files in audio
books and music, books from audible dot cm and will read text-formatted
files. The stream also plays a few other formatted files that I haven't
quite grasped as of yet.

The DS 50 to my knowledge is a digital voice recorder and this is its only
function.

May I suggest your friend contact the people at Book Share to see what they
may recommend for a player? Also they can answer the DAISY to MP3 conversion
question.

Subject: [VICUG-L] playing Bookshare DAISY books

: I'm writing on behalf of a friend who wants to know which portable
: players will play Bookshare DAISY books. He owns a DS50 (I think
: that's the number) Olympus digital recorder and wants to know if he
: can play these books on that machine. Aside from the Victor Reader
: Stream, what other devices can play Bookshare DAISY books? Can these
: books be converted to MP3 or text files?
:
: Thanks in advance for your responses.
