Fleet pumps up functionality at NY ATMs

8 August 2002

NEW YORK -- FleetBoston Financial is rolling out 100 ATMs with advanced
functionality for the New York Metro market.

Among the new functionalities are an option that allows customers to
preset their regular cash withdrawal amounts and language preferences.
The advanced ATMs offer a choice of seven languages: English, Spanish,
Chinese, Korean, Russian, French, and Portuguese.

Fleet customers will have access to a greater variety of accounts,
including Quick & Reilly investment accounts, home equity lines of credit
and cash reserve accounts. A new safety feature will truncate account
numbers on screens and receipts so that only the four last digits are
shown. Purchase of 37-cent postage stamps will also be available on most
Fleet advanced ATMs.

The ATMs also feature voice guidance technology that allows visually
impaired customers to receive private audio instructions through
headphones.

A new interface will feature a global navigation bar lets customers check
balances or return to the main menu anytime during their ATM session.

Later this year, Fleet plans to begin offering bill payment at the
advanced ATMs. By using a payee list that they have set up through Fleet
HomeLink, Fleet's on-line banking service, customers can use the ATM to
make payments.
