It is incorrect that Security Essentials will no longer be updated. It is
only the XP support, in other words, security patches applied to XP, that
will cease. Microsoft Security Essentials is not part of the OS and will
still continue to protect from viruses, and will still update itself.

Yes, Microsoft will not be putting out new security fixes for Windows XP,
so any security vulnerabilities found in Windows XP will not be fixed.
This will be true for any antimalware software and not just MSE.

You can still get Windows 7. I also don't think Windows 8 is that hard to
use unless you want to take advantage of it's touch screen features.
You will miss things like the start menu, but Microsoft is adding that
back in with updates to Windows 8.
