AccessWorld, the American Foundation for the Blind's technology
magazine, is a comprehensive resource for obtaining the latest information
on assistive technology.  It includes: objective product evaluations;
assistive technology news; on the job profiles of successful people who are
blind or visually impaired; a question and answer column; a calendar of
events; conference reports and more.

The January 2002 issue will feature:
Dial A for Access: Getting Cell Phones You Can Really Use
Jennifer Sutton and Janina Sajka

The authors describe the very small steps that cell phone manufacturers
have taken so far to make their products accessible. The main focus,
however, is on what you can do. They provide tips on what to ask for when
you shop for a cell phone, and describe what cell phone owners can do to
get more out of the phones they already own. Finally, they take you
step-by-step through the process of filing a complaint with the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC), the agency that oversees communication
law. In March, AccessWorld will feature a more in-depth article on what
specific cell phone manufacturers and service providers have to offer.

Focused and User Friendly: An Interview with Doug Geoffray
by Deborah Kendrick

Geoffray discusses how he got into the assistive technology field, how he
and Dan Weirich started GW Micro to continue doing the work they had begun
doing elsewhere, and how feedback from users has played a major part in
making Window-Eyes the excellent product that it is.

Choosing a Screen Magnifier: Dolphin Computer Access' LunarPlus.
Kevin Dusling and Mark Uslan

The authors evaluate LunarPlus 4.5, the screen magnifier from Dolphin
Computer Access, Ltd. They also compare LunarPlus's features and
performance with that of Freedom Scientific's MAGic 8.0 and Ai Squared's
ZoomText Xtra 7.06, reviewed in AccessWorld, November 2001. Find out how
these three products stack up against one another, and which one is right
for you.

Driving Windows for the First Time
By Joseph J. Lazzaro

This article provides a beginner's guide to using Windows. It describes the
Windows desktop, the Task bar and the Start menu. The rest of the article
covers some basic commands that will get you working in Windows, assuming
your screen reader or screen magnifier is also working, of course.
