If I understand this correctly, JAWS has a utility called "window class
reassign" reached by hitting ins F2 and then arrowing down. I've never used
it though so cannot help you there though I'm sure there is "help" on the
subject.

Subject: [VICUG-L] Seeking Equivalent to Re-classifying Controls in JAWS 10
Hello all:
I'm working on testing a program here at work that if we can get it to work
with speech and Braille, would provide someone who is totally blind
employment. Basically, it's a terminal emulation program that is needed to
access certain databases from the state of Illinois which are stored on a
mainframe system. The emulation package is called Blue Zone and is launched
via an ActiveX Control once a user is authenticated.
What happens is that prompts needed to enter various things are not echoed
back using speech, so you need a refreshable Braille display.
Even with refreshable Braille, we have run into occasional cursor tracking
problems. What we have here is a good old fashioned command line interface,
but it does use function keys to get to various entry and display screens.
. We think we've gotten this to work with Window-Eyes and a Focus 80
Braille display by re-classifying the Blue Zone screen as a Rich Edit
control. So my question is, is there an equivalent to the re-class
operation of Window-Eyes in JAWS 10?
Thanks,
