Hi All,


This thread has a few topics.


First, I'm a Thunderbird user. When I updated to Windows Fall Creators 
Update, I didn't lose any of my emails. On the desktop, I didn't do 
anything before the update; then after the update, I opened Thunderbird, 
and all my accounts and email messages were just fine. On my laptop, 
where memory was low, I uninstalled Thunderbird and deleted the 
Thunderbird folder in my Roaming folder before the Windows update; then 
after the update, I reinstalled Thunderbird and set up my accounts: all 
my messages came back.


Second, I don't use Outlook, but as someone else pointed out, my 
understanding is that older versions of Outlook should work with newer 
versions of Windows. If you're referring to Outlook Express, I haven't 
used that in a very long time, so can't vouch. I have used Windows Mail, 
though not recently, and it is accessible. When I was using it 
regularly, there were a few things that involved extra steps. When I 
used it again about a year later, most of those things had been 
corrected. My guess is that it's probably fine now.


Third, Outlook hasn't been part of recent versions of Office 365, but I 
read a recent announcement saying that it would be included. Until a 
couple of months ago, I had an Office 365 subscription for two years. 
Outlook wasn't installed with it. When I checked into why that was, I 
don't remember if I had to pay extra or buy a separate product. I just 
did a quick search for the announcement about Outlook to be included in 
Office, but I'm not finding it so I'm not sure when that starts.


Fourth, when you get an Office 365 subscription, you download and 
install office in the usual way, and you can use it offline. I know I 
had problems the first few times I tried using it offline, but I don't 
remember if it was a Microsoft issue that was corrected or a setting I 
had to change. All works well until your subscription expires. At that 
point, you need to renew to access Office.


Fifth, on a related topic, I have Office, the non365 suite. I actually 
have a couple of copies: One for the desktop, another for the laptop, 
and maybe one for the tablet. Whenever I uninstall Office, Microsoft 
seems to know and makes it available to me again. For example, my dinky 
laptop has little memory, so I always have had to uninstall a lot of 
stuff before upgrading to the next version of Windows. Each time, I'm 
able to reinstall Office without having to pay for it again.
