Aloha, Y'all!

VICUG NYC's next General Membership Meeting will be held in the
Auditorium of The Associated Blind (TAB) building on Tuesday, October
Thirteenth, from 6 to 8 pm. The October 13th meeting will feature the
most important discussion in VICUG NYC's history--whether or not the
organization has a future, and, if so, who will lead it into the
twenty-first century. If the continued existence of a peer-support and
mentoring group, dedicated to the needs and concerns of blind and
visually impaired computer users, is important to you, then it is
imperative that YOU attend the October General Membership Meeting.

Since there was not a quorum at the September General Membership
Meeting, the election of a new Executive Committee has been
postponed until a slate of candidates has been nominated.
Nominations will be fielded at the October meeting. Two
Member-at-Large seats will be available on the Executive Committee,
and nominations for the positions of: President, Vice-President,
Secretary, Treasurer, and WebMaster/Minister of Propaganda will also be
accepted if a quorum is achieved at the October 13th meeting.

Just to refresh your (collective and individual) memories, here is the
current composition of the Executive Committee:

President: Tom Dekker (not seeking re-election)
Vice-President: Janina Sajka (not seeking re-election as VP)
Secretary: Peter Altshul (not seeking re-election)
     Treasurer: Ruth-Ellen Simmonds
     WebMaster/MoP: Gregory J. Rosmaita
Members-at-Large: Jay Leventhal & Vita Zavoli

If you are interested in running for an Executive Committee position, or
if you are contemplating nominating someone else for a position, please
read ARTICLE VII of the bylaws, which describes the election process,
carefully! VICUG NYC's bylaws are available online at:

        http://www.njin.net/caldwell/vicug/bylaws.html

If you do not have access to the Web, please email <[log in to unmask]> to
obtain a plain ASCII copy of VICUG NYC's bylaws.

Remember--participatory democracy works both ways--you have to have paid
your dues before the commencement of the October 13th meeting if you want
to either nominate someone for a position or accept a nomination, and you
need to be a dues-paying member in order to vote in the election!

You do NOT, however, need to be a member-in-good-standing to have a say in
the larger discussion on the future of VICUG NYC. Anyone and everyone is
encouraged to attend-even if you have never before attended a VICUG NYC
meeting.
