Personally, I will feel much more comfortable when humans are taken out of
the driving equation. Sure, talk all you want about computer failures and
your Windows PC crashing, but computers don't talk on cell phones, don't
try and put makeup on, read the morning news paper, drink coffee, eat
breakfast, deal with a screaming baby, all while supposedly paying
attention to pedestrians, other cars, traffic laws, and the like.
I believe that the insurance companies will eventually penalize you for
not having a computer driven car rather than require you to have a
licensed operator at the wheel of a computer driven car.
Once the concept is proven, people will be much happier to eat their
breakfast, chat on facebook, and watch an episode of Madmen while sitting
in the car rather than driving it.
You will see accident levels fall, as people don't try and run yellow
lights, miss stop signs because they weren't paying attention, or drive
into the car in front of them because they were trying to figure out if
this is the corner they want to turn at.
