        Project ASSIST With Windows is pleased to announce the immediate
release
of our latest tutorial, EXCEL97 FOR BEGINNERS with both JAWS FOR WINDOWS
3.20.09 and Window-eyes 2.1.  You may download the elecronic version of the=

        These tutorials provide easy-to-understand, step-by-step instructio=
ns
for using this popular and powerful spreadsheet application.  Some topics
covered include:  using worksheets and workbooks, understanding formulas,
understanding functions, performing calculations, etc. =20

About Project ASSIST With Windows: To help ease the transition to the Windo=
ws
environment, the Iowa Department for the Blind began work on Project ASSIST
With Windows (Accessible Step-by-Step Instructions for Speech Technology Wi=
th
Windows). ASSIST With Windows is being funded by a three-year Special Proje=
ct
grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education an=
d
Rehabilitative Services (Federal Grant Number: H235U60092). =20

The purpose of ASSIST With Windows is to create and disseminate tutorials a=
nd
configuration and documentation materials for Windows based applications us=
ed
in conjunction with a screen reader application. Each tutorial will focus o=
n a
different combination of Windows application and screen reader. These
materials
will enable individuals who are blind to quickly and effectively learn to u=
se
Microsoft Windows and Windows applications with major screen reading softwa=
re
packages. The materials will cover Windows (3.X and '95) and the following
Windows applications: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and
Internet
Explorer), Corel Office Suite (WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, and Paradox), Lotu=
s
Smart Suite (Word Pro, Lotus 1,2,3 and Approach), and Netscape Navigator. T=
he
tutorials will provide step-by-step instructions for beginner, intermediate=
,
and advanced users and will be made available on cassette, as well as in
electronic formats that can be used to produce  Braille or large print
versions.

All materials created by the project will be posted on our web site at
www.blind.state.ia.us/assist where anyone can download and utilize the
information.
