You need to delete the message when Outlook is not trying to send it. I
don't know what version of Outlook you're using, but the easiest way to make
sure you can do it would be to disable your automatic mail send/receive, or
take Outlook off-line. I haven't found that off-line setting in 2010, but I
know the send/receive process can be stopped through Options. If you're
using 2003 then the off-line setting is on the File menu. Once you change
the settings, if that's what you need to do, then quit Outlook and restart
it. You should then be able to go into your outbox and get rid of the
message.

Subject: [VICUG-L] Message stuck in the bottle neck of Outlook

Hi Everyone,

OK, my description is a little fanciful, but here's the deal.

Two months ago, I tried to send a friend a very large attachment. When
other messages weren't sending over the next several hours or days, I
realized that that one large message was stuck, like a chunk of debris in
the neck of a bottle the won't let the liquid pour through. It was caught
in my Outbox.

Lots of other messages were hung up in my Outbox. Easy solution, right?
Delete the offending message. It wouldn't delete. Move it to another
folder. It wouldn't move. Now, it is two months later, and that stupid
thing is still in my Outbox. The upshot is that, while my email eventually
goes out, it is really slow. Does anyone have any other suggestions for how
I can get that email to go away? I wound up giving the friend the documents
on a thumb drive long ago, but that hung-up message is really playing havoc
with my communication!

Thanks,

Deborah
