There are screen readers for linux.  However one way that also works is to
use an old computer as a terminal machine for another where the os is
linux.  This is similar to people who use dial up on a shell account where
their computer with it's speech works like a terminal for the sshell
machine.  In fact many shell machines these days are linux systems.
