Depending on how old the machine is, Dell usually use Sound Blaster 
Sound cards. The mic jack is on the card next to where you plug the 
speakers in. Your computer number should be on a sticker on the top of 
the left side. It is very tiny. I always need help when locating it - 
the numbers that is.
