I'm a bit puzzled why you would want to save an html file in word pad.  If
you navigate the web page you can review various sections of the page.  If
you want to find specific words you can do a JAWS or NVDA find command and
that should find the text.  The only reason I would save the page in any
format is in case you need to review the page off-line.  The text you are
seeing isn't junk.  I reviewed it and there is html as you would expect and
some css code to style the appearance of the page.

There are any number of reasons the page didn't save as text.  I would go
back to the page and see if there is html on it.  If so, then it possibly
means there's a missing html tag somewhere which causes the text to display
in html.  It would be difficult to find the missing html tag unless you know
html and can use a browser option to view the source html which would be
tedious.  It's also possible that Chrome can't render the page as text.
Maybe the page uses an old version of html which isn't compatible with the
latest version of Chrome.  It's also possible that because the html might be
broken, a browser can't render it completely as text.  I'm just guessing and
I could be wrong about these things.

You have several options to save the page I don't know what save options are
available in Chrome but in Firefox you could select the print page and then
save it as a pdf.  The problem with that though is that you might end up
with a pdf which is just an image.  Even if you get a pdf which is text it
might be untagged so it would not be navigable.  You could also look at
saving the page using Firefox in another form.

I would suggest you get used to reviewing pages in a browser for the
following reasons.  As I said before saving a page may change the appearance
of the resulting document and the document may not be navigable.  If the
page you try to save has hyperlinks to more information, then you will lose
the hyperlinks when you save the page and you won't be able to read all of
the text.  If you need help understanding something in the manual a sighted
person wouldn't be able to make sense of it unless they are actually viewing
the original page.  Pages contain headings, lists, and links to help the
user navigate the page.  pages also contain visual styling to draw a sighted
person's attention to text that is important.  This styling will be lost if
you save the page as a file.  I really think you need to get used to
reviewing pages in a browser.  If you want to make notes about something you
could create a document, and cut and paste the relevant information from the
page into the document but this would be tedious.  So these are my thoughts.

I've seen this type of online junk format several times over the years.

How did you get this user manual?
Did you save it, or copy the manual from the website?

I recall a discussion some time ago about this sort of online junk format,
and someone suggested saving the text in Word, then opening a couple of
menus to remove the junk.
Cannot remember which version of MS Word.

I will check to see if I still have the instructions.

Leaving soon, appointment with my hearing aid technician.

Well folks, I use to be able to do this in internet explorer, but I tried
this web page?? in internet explorer and no dice, nothing. I tried it in
microsoft edge, and nothing, I tried it in google chrome, and nothing.

This is a manual for a portable telescopic ham radio antenna, which shows
some promise for an antenna, but I've got to get the manual usable, and,
then I can try the antenna and see if it works.

So, I brought it over to word pad, and there is a lot of html junk in it,
and I tried to do a find and replace, but it didn't find, and it didn't
replace.

So, if someone could tell me how to get rid of this stuff to make it
readable, or, if someone could do it for me, I would love it.

Because the sooner I find out how to work with this antenna, the sooner
people will be able to use the antenna!
