I'm not aware of any technology which accommodates this need. In the event no one else has a viable option, would you consider requesting the Conference Planner to provide someone, to sit with you during the Conference, to provide you with real time audible description of the subtitles? If it's necessary for you to go this route, I suggest you give them a call or put your request in writing to the appropriate person responsible for registration. It wouldn't be an unreasonable request, it's worth a try! I too am anxious to hear the responses of others!

Subject: [VICUG-L] Accessible Subtitles

Hi All,

I'll be attending a conference next weekend. One of the activities is watching a documentary in another language and participating in a discussion. The documentary has English subtitles. I'd like to ask for permission to stream or borrow the documentary so I can play it on my computer, but I don't know of any software that allows the screen reader to speak the subtitles.

Do any of you have suggestions?

Ciao
