I've had a Samsung S7 Active for about four years now. I still use it but I recently replaced it as my go to phone with an iPhone 11 This is my 3rd S7. The first was replaced due to a swelling battery and the second had a problem with the microphone. It sounds like I had issues with the S7 Active, but I like the phone, and I'd still get another Samsung phone in the future. I did not have any problems related specifically to new releases of Android.

Between work and home, I've had five iPhones and two of them ended up having swollen batteries. I'd still buy another iPhone, and in fact I did last Christmas when I got my iPhone 11.

I've heard bad things about the Motorola phones, bought I have bought two of the midrange Motorola phones for my sighted sons and they seem to like them. Nokia also makes a good midrange phone, and some of the up and coming brands like Asus and Oneplus give you a lot of phone for the money.
