When I called Cingular, they told me that they would provide this service for the blind.  However, I would have to wait until the call showed up on the statement, then call them to get the charge removed. I have never actually tried it to see if it works.

Is Verizon Wireless the only cell phone company that offers this service?  I
was told by them that they did not offer this. I guess I need to call three
more times. It seems to be a typical situation when you call for
information.

Verizon wireless will allow you to get free directory assistance if you send
them the proper documentation from a qualified physician.  It took me four
calls to customer service before I found someone who was aware of the
policy.  It isn't something they advertise.
