I use google with lynx quite often with either basic or advanced searches.

It takes a little fiddling to get past all the new sponsored junk on the first
pages, but if you bookmark the advanced search link and use the bookmark to
access the site then that becomes a bit easier.

Probably what is confusing is that you must go through much of each first page
of repetative stuff before getting to results.

You must use screen review extensively, just moving between links will never
get the job done.

Learn to use the check boxes etc. inadvanced search to specify your search
as accurately as you can and again, it is well worth the effort

google is so effectife so often its worth the effort.
