Hi Everett,
I used to run into a similar problem when I sent out an email newsletter for
a nonprofit organization. My computer setup was/is much like yours. It
definitely has to do with the accessibility and color settings for Win
XP/IE?OE and the recipient's computer settings, but I was never able to come
up with a definitive reason. In these occasional situations the only
solution I found was to temporarily switch my display settings to the
Windows standard scheme and resend the email. It only happened with a few
people out of several hundred. The text was always there, it was just black
on black. The recipient could also do a "Select All" and copy and paste the
text into Word or Notepad to read it.
Now that I don't have any useable vision and am totally reliant on a screen
reader, my display and color settings are the classic Windows settings (this
is for my sighted wife's benefit) and I've never run into that problem
again.
Hope this helps,
Duane

Subject: [VICUG-L] Black Background, White Letters, Zoomtext, Windows, &
Craigslist?
Hi all,
I'm starting to get slightly frustrated at this problem which happens
occasionally, but not always. Another person just responded to a Craiglist
ad I posted. When I responded back to her, she responded back saying she
couldn't read my message because, apparently, visually all she's seeing is a
totally blacked out screen.
I'm assuming this is because on my end I have the Windows Accessibility
settings set to a black background with white lettering. This is not
supposed to affect my messages once they leave my computer, though -- or so
I thought. Seems like only an occasional problem, and most people respond
just fine to the dozens of messages I send out most days, be they sighted
readers or not. Any ideas on how to fix this and keep it looking their
normal way on their end, and my way on my screen? I don't believe this mixup
should be happening. I do not use HTML e-mails, and generally read and send
all in text-only. BTW, I'm using WinXP, and OutlookExpress v.6.0,
copyrighted 2004, but I can't seem to find and don't remember whether it's
Office 2003 or 2007 or what.
Thanks for any help given.
Strive On!
Everett
