Thanks to everybody for their suggestions re my JAWS and Outlook Express 
issue.

I have found that David's suggestion of telling the JAWS dictionary to 
regard the greater than sign as a space in outlook Express is working just 
great.  Not sure of the long-term implications of this (imagine there won't 
be any as this is not a global dictionary adjustment) but for my purposes it 
is working just great.
