Holding down the control key  will allow you to select several options when
you click on each selection with the mouse, therefore you have to use the
left mouse key which is the slash key, above the number 8 key on the numeric
keypad.  If you hold down the shift key, it will select all items between
the first and last click, the control key selects the items that you click
on.  This works for choosing files, emails, etcetra.
