It is not possible to derive a key by key method without being there.
but most likely the HP all in one will be capable of acting as a "twain"
compatible scanner.  If the HP package didn't come with OCR, which many do,
then one will be needed.  As Dan says, perhaps the disks can be recovered,
but this might be quite expensive.  Check the various ocr packages at, for
example,

Most OCR packages will work with an installed twain compatible scanner, but
how it is done key by key is the usual windows tanglei.

some of these less expensive reading machine packages are self voicing, some
work with a screen reader.

Text pad is not a good choice for reading the results because it doesn't
automatically word wrap, That setting can be made but its yet another thing
to fuss with.

word pad is probably setup to wrap automatically.

How easilly all this can be done by someone who is used to one of
the complete reading machine packages is the real question.

What you get by paying the huge prices for openbook or Kursweil is just that,
a complete package that is somewhat less complex to use.

There ain't no easy answer.
but then there rarely are.
