Hi Jamie,

Re your question about access to ebscohost and lexis-nexis

EBSCOhost, whose web site is http://www.ebscohost.com/ehost/login.html,

is boasting that their new edition, 3.1, will support PDF Files, also known
as Adobe Acrobat, according to the news release at
http://www.epnet.com/pressre/1999/host31.htm

Although there are ways to access very simple PDF documents
(http://access.adobe.com), there are serious problems for many documents.
In the worst case, the files are images which are completely useless. In
other cases, text appears out of order which can make reading difficult or
impossible.

In fact, the EBSCOhost site itself says that "lynx users will need continue
using EBSCOhost 1.1". If lynx can't handle something, it's unlikely that
anything else can.

So one question is whether the info you will need is available on their 1.1
edition. Or, if you have to go to 3.1, if the documents are simple enough
to be accessible. Also, whether there are other access problems with the
3.1 site. I don't have a login to ebscohost so I couldn't check.

As for lexis-nexis, here at Temple at least access is just via an ordinary
web page at http://web.lexis-nexis.com/universe (that's only accessible
inside the firewalls of places who have subscribed so don't try to click on
it unless you're now at such an internet connection.)

I started to look at it with netscape and lynx. At first glance at least
it doesn't look too bad. Well, they left out alt text for some bullets.
And some page headers have useless alt text like "image". However, in
those cases the page still has a useful title. And some of it is formatted
in columns so you'll need to handle that, either by using something like
lynx, pwwebspeak, home page reader, or, if you use jaws with internet
explorer, do the usual insert-F5 to get rid of the columns.

So it doesn't seem too bad. However, I didn't look at all the databases,
and I'm looking from Temple's connection. I don't know if your college
points to the same place.

Getting back to ebscohost, please tell me where you got with that.

I still have not heard from anyone on this issue. I think it was =
because I was sending them wrong. Well, does anyone know if Group Wise =
e-mail package works with Jaws. I am a college student and will have =
to use this package occasionally. I will use this package when I have =
to e-mail all students or all staff. Also there is two data based =
products the college uses. One of these is called lexnix-nexis. The =
other program is called EBSCOhost. I am wondering if there will be any =
problems with Jaws reading these data bases? My last question concerns =
the list. I will be going back to college soon and my e-mail address =
will be changing. How do I make this change to the list? Any help =
would be appreciated. =20
