Subject: [VICUG-L] here's how to put a web page on a desktop

Hi all,

Maybe you have a web page you go to all the time, for example, I want to check my local weather forecast from the national weather service. If you want to go to your web page, and you don't want to have to go to your favorites, (also called bookmarks), all the time, you can put it on your desktop, here's how to do that with 2 different browsers

section 1. Doing it using Internet Explorer

If you're using internet explorer:
1. Go to the web page you want to put on the desktop.
2. Press alt a for favorites.
3. press enter, and you're in the name for the favorite.
4. Now, you can type a new name for the favorite, or, just use the name that is already there.
5. If you want to put a new name for the favorite, press the home key, and you're now at the beginning of the name of the favorite.
6. So, now, press shift and the end key, and you have selected the name of the favorite.
7. Now, press the delete key, and you have deleted the name of the favorite.
8. Now, type the name you want to use for the favorite.
9. Now, tab down to save button, and press enter, and that favorite is now in the list of favorites.
10. Now, press alt a for the favorites list.
11. Now, find the favorite you just saved that is now in the list of favorites.
12. Now, press shift f10 for the context menu.
13. Then, down arrow to send to submenu.
14. Then, down arrow to desktop create shortcut.
15. Now, press enter, and the web page you wanted to put on the desktop, is now on the desktop!

section 2. Doing it using Google Chrome

1. Go to the web page.
2. Press the alt key and you should be in the menu.
3. Down arrow to more tools submenu.
4. press right arrow to go into the submenu.
5. Down arrow to create shortcut.
6. Press enter
7. The name of the web page is already there. You can use the name for the web page that's already there, or you can delete the text, and rename the web page.
8. Then, tab down to create button and press enter Now, go to your desktop, and you'll see that web page that you just created the shortcut for!
