Well Mike, if I'm buying it I should have the right to use/connect it to any
service I choose, however if the seller insists on having me only connect to
their service then they should retain ownership of the device. If it's mine
then give it to me and leave me alone, unless of course I opt to buy more
services from you.

I agree with you in terms of having less Government interference in my life,
so why are they not allowing a free market in the cell phone system? Isn't
it they who have provided the ability of cell phone companies to lock the
phones to their service? I should be able to buy my phone from Apple and
connect it anywhere that will provide me the service I want/need.

Thx, Albert

Albert

Why should you be able to plug in your cellphone as you do your refr ig,
your tv, or your shaver.
You didn't create that cellphone, and as its buyer, you get whatever rights
the seller chooses to give you.
While I would personally prefer more utility from that cellphone than less,
I don't like government action of any sort interfering in this process
particularly when it comes from an executive department administrative
agency.
Those agencies have become the tool of the executive branch in sidestepping
the check and balances created by the writers of the Constitution.
Just because a given decision may be one that personally works in my benefit
doesn't make it right.

can do.
