For anyone who is curious about whether or not computers can really auto
land an aircraft, take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autoland
Section three is the most concise part, but the first sections are very
informative.

The first automated landing of a commercial aircraft, with passengers
on board, took place in 1965. Category 3, CAT III, fully automated
landings, including approach, flare, touch down, spoiler and thrust
reverse deployment, and roll out are not theory and are used regularly on
commercial flights.

Most people do not want to believe that, and many pilots also deny this
fact.
