Subject: Important information from GW Micro--Please read!
Since 1990, GW Micro has developed a committed customer base by providing
high quality, affordable products and since 1995 one of their most
successful products has been Window-Eyes, a reliable, "Rock Solid" screen
reading program for Windows 95, 98 and Millennium operating
systems. Window-Eyes is about to change. Please read the following closely
as it contains important pricing and application structure information for
future versions of Window-Eyes that may affect you directly.
On October 25, 2001, Microsoft will be releasing their latest operating
system, Windows XP (for more information, please visit
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/). Windows XP will consist of two
separate versions: the Windows XP Home version (which focuses primarily on
home entertainment, and Internet access), and Windows XP Professional
(which focuses primarily on business and advanced home computing). Many
large computer manufacturers (such as Dell, Compaq, HP, and others) are
already including these new operating systems on their custom built machines.
When the initial report of Windows XP became available, GW Micro planned to
release Window-Eyes Professional, a software package that would support
Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional, and would sell for $995. Also, an
upgrade was planned for the standard Window-Eyes so that it supported
Windows XP Home.
This original pricing and application structure of Window-Eyes, however,
has changed dramatically due to recently acquired information through GW
Micro development team research, as well as through verbal surveys of
customers like you.
By examining the details of Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional,
our development team was able to deduce that minimal differences existed
between the two operating systems that would affect the operation of
Window-Eyes. A partial list of those differences follows:
· Remote Desktop
· Multi-Processor Support
· Backup And Automated Recovery
· Fax Services
· Internet Information Services/Personal Web Server
· Administrative Tools
· Miscellaneous Network Services
· Miscellaneous Security Services
For a more complete list of these differences, please visit:

Since the differences between Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional
do not affect the performance or functionality of Window-Eyes, a change is
coming. It will provide you, the customer, with a software package that
will include access to both Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional, as
well as versions of previous Microsoft operating systems such as Windows
95, Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows 2000, in one complete package. In
other words, no matter what environment you are in, Window-Eyes will be
there for you.
GW Micro recognizes that times are tough. That is why the original price
plan for Window-Eyes Professional has been changed, making the software
package truly "one size fits all."
The original price of $995 for Window-Eyes Professional has been reduced to
a price of $795 and it will include support for Windows 95, Windows 98,
Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP Home, and Windows XP Professional in
one complete package.
For the first 60 days after it is released, users who own a current version
of Window-Eyes will be able to migrate to Window-Eyes Professional for
either $200, or they may choose to use two SMA counts (assuming that an SMA
agreement has already been purchased). Again, this special price will only
be available for up to sixty days after the final release of Window-Eyes
Professional.
The Window-Eyes SMA (Software Maintenance Agreement) currently retails for
$249 and this price will be available only until October 31, 2001. After
that time, the SMA price will increase to $299.
GW Micro does not believe it is necessary to charge an exaggerated amount
for the two different versions of Window-Eyes, when the differences between
those two versions are not large enough to warrant a price change. This
kind of commitment and dedication to you, our customers, is what helps make
Window-Eyes a rock solid product.
Those users who do not plan to upgrade to an operating system later than
Windows Me may continue to purchase the standard Window-Eyes at the
traditional price of $595. It should be noted that the standard Window-Eyes
will not support any operating system later than Windows Me. Migrating to
Window-Eyes Professional will provide you with better savings.
GW Micro's commitment to customer satisfaction and high quality,
affordable, and reliable software is going to help take you places never
thought possible. Keep listening ...
Window-Eyes Professional orders will be accepted closer to the final
release date. Information about the public beta of Window-Eyes Professional
will be posted on all GW Micro e-mail lists, as well as the GW Micro
website, when that information becomes available. Prices, product
specifications, and availability are subject to change without notice. All
prices are posted in U.S. dollars. If you have questions regarding price
information, please email [log in to unmask] If you have questions about
the technical aspects of Window-Eyes Professional, please e-mail
