The Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Center for the Blind and
Visually Impaired (WCBVI) is currently seeking an IS Technical Services
Professional.
This full-time position is located at 1700 W. State Street, Janesville. 
 
Starting salary will be between $34,598 and $57,088 per year depending
on qualifications. This position is in pay schedule 07, range 04. A six
month probationary
period may be required. 
 
Job Duties
 
Under the general supervision of the WCBVI Center Director, this
position functions as the statewide education authority for assistive
technologies for
the Blind and Visually Impaired. This position will provide
consultation, technical assistance, evaluation, training/instruction,
and some helpdesk functions
in the area of assistive technology for the blind. In addition provide
limited backup network administration and assistance to the WCBVI
Technology Coordinator.
Travel throughout Wisconsin to provide expertise in technology for the
blind to local educational agencies, teachers, parents, students, and
other individuals/organizations.
Assist in the planning of Statewide School District and WCBVI technology
purchases and make recommendations as to the scope and depth of the
WCBVI technology
equipment loan program. 
 
As necessary, develop curriculum and evaluation materials for
instructional use, create/write resource lists, objective reviews of
products, information
updates, and other related materials. Maintain knowledge of current
software and hardware including evaluating new products as necessary.
Work closely
with certified teachers of the visually impaired and orientation and
mobility instructors in order to make proper technology recommendations
for students
with visual impairments. This position will require periodic overnight
travel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
 
Knowledge of visual impairments and their impact on the educational
process and the use of technology; basic low vision evaluation
information and implications
for use with assistive technologies; screen reading software and
hardware including JAWS; screen magnification software including MAGIC;
braille displays
and their interaction with screen reading software; braille translation
software including Megadots, Braille 2000 and Duxbury; non-visual access
to computers
including performing operations without the use of the mouse; methods of
evaluation for determining technology needs of students who are blind
and visually
impaired; Microsoft Office Suite product; operating systems including
Win9x, WinME, Win 2000/XP, Vista, Mac OS 8.6 and up; time management
strategies.
Excellent reading and writing skills. Excellent team worker with
interpersonal communication skills.
