And then, during installation of that upgrade, not install (by unchecking) 
each checkbox for the other skins.

Harry, I suspect somehow you checked a different skin and that's why you can
access anything.  It so happens there's a 5.33 Winamp available now.  If you
can't get to the preferences in 5.31 and check your skin, maybe you could
just update to winamp 5.33 and when you're setting up make sure the radio
button for classic skin is checked.
