PROGRAMMER III


Under the immediate supervision of the Technology Project Leader
(Supervisor, Applications Programming), this position provides a
challenging and varied opportunity to provide programming support for
product related projects and project management oversight for both
existing products and those currently under development. We are
seeking a talented software programmer for interesting work
developing end user software tools and hardware firmware. Currently,
Windows and Linux are primary platforms of interest, but Windows
Mobile, Symbian, and Android are three areas of future interest.
Projects under development include Windows utilities, games, and
educational software, firmware for two hardware platforms, a Linux
based PDA and another hand-held device with its own OS. Server-side
users tools are of interest as well. Accessibility is a key
component of all projects, but we can help instruct with that aspect
of the position.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participate in the design process (write, debug, and test
software) for individually assigned projects and assist in
development of projects assigned to other members of the programming
team.
2. Maintain existing and new software and document code changes.
3. Serve as troubleshooter for programming and debugging on
projects, including working with other programmers on technical
specifications and documentation.
4. Suggest UI and foundational improvements to software and
hardware projects.
5. Write and review user product instructional and documentation
information, including the documentation of changes made to existing
programs.
6. Provide technical support to consumers of current products,
as well as designated APH staff, and CTS staff when requested.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a working and demonstrable knowledge of structured
programming practices.
Must possess a working and demonstrable knowledge of C and C++.
Knowledge of Linux, Linux administration, Python, PHP, SQL, server-
side applications, Windows and Linux component applications, C# are
strong pluses. Likewise, experience with writing software to work
with map data for GPS related projects is also highly desirable.
Must be a quick study and be able to learn new languages, systems,
and technologies such as speech synthesis and screen readers.
Demonstrate (with code) projects successfully completed showing high
level of judgment, analytical ability, and creativity in getting job
done.
Experience in writing software that runs on multiple platforms and
software written in a highly flexible manner so that it may be used
for more than one purpose is very desirable.

Must possess excellent verifiable organizational and project/time
management experience and skills required in an environment of
rapidly changing priorities.
Must have the ability to communicate technical issues to lay
personnel and consumers, as well as communicate and work across
departmental lines.
COMPENSATION:

Pay Grade: 9 Minimum: $ 21.11 Midpoint:
$ 26.48
