David,

Thanks for telling us about Jarte. I just visited the website,
downloaded the free text editor based on word pad, and played with it a
little. It's very cool, seems completely accessible, and knows that a
screen reader is being used.

On rereading your message, I'm guessing you're new to windows 7. Yes,
Documents in Windows 7 and above is what used to be My Documents in XP.
On your desktop, there's probably an icon that says David. Pressing
enter there gets you to a list of folders like documents, downloads, and
Music. The path is probably something like c:\users\david\documents.

I created a practice document in Jarte on my windows 8.1 machine, and
when I did, the file was saved to documents, which is where I found it
when I wanted to open it. If your computer is new and you haven't saved
any documents anywhere, you may be in the root directory so you'd need
to find Users, David, etc. One thing to be aware of when moving from XP
to Windows 7 and above is that, when you're in the Save or Open dialog,
pressing shift+tab from the edit box where you write the file name takes
you to a tool bar where you can change the sort order of the browsable
items; then pressing shift+tab a second time actually takes you to the
list of files. If you were to pres shift+tab a third time, you'd get to
something unfamiliar.

Hope this helps.

Ciao
