Joan Froling is a service dog trainer and works closely with GDUI in its
relationship with the Coalition of Assistance Dog Partners. As you will
see from the message below, she very much wants to make her website
accessible to those of us who use speech readers. Would you please look at
her test page and answer the questions posed by the website designer?

Subject: Joan IAADP sends Test page Questions for Speech Readers - Please Help
Dear friends:
I would like to make the Sterling Service Dogs website accessible to my
friends with speech readers. I do not know anything about doing that. Our
volunteer
knows very little about either, but she did go on line, read as much as she
could over a two day period, then she created a test page. Before we change
the whole site, which is huge, to be just like the Test Page, we needto know
if that Test Page is acceptable to you. She has a series of questions below on
which she is asking your feedback, so she can try to do a good job
of making our website accessible to speech readers.
I'd be very grateful if you could respond. We have held up the website
for two weeks waiting for a response. I guess everyone has been very busy,
but perhaps you could take ten minutes tonight to help me find out if we have
done the test page right or if we need to make additional changes to
accommodate you.

(remember, the links to other pages will not lead anywhere because the other
pages are not published yet. I need to see if these design elements work
with speech and Braille readers before I redo the other pages)
1. Does the title image alternate text work for them (Sterling Service Dogs)
2. Does the alternate text for the navigation images work so they can
use these
links easily (About Us, Home etc.)
3. Does the alternate text for the photo work for them and does their
reader
support a long description for the photo (if not, what's the limit)
4. Does the text read properly even though it is "wrapped" around the
photo? I
know readers read from right to left, so I wonder if the photo
itself may interfere with their ability to read that?
5. If they follow a link to another site from SSD's site, such as using
the link to Assistance Dogs International at the bottom of the Test
Page, does their software
have a "back button" feature to return them to our site easily?
6. Any other suggestions on how to make this site work well for them
would be
greatly appreciated because in this case, I'm the one working blind
since I
don't have the software to check for compatibility with their
readers.
