     I don't see the point in converting a text file into an MP3 or any
other audio file when there are computer programs that will read the text
directly without creating another (and usually larger) file.  I am using
ReadPlease from http://www.readplease.com  that reads the text as it is
copied to the Windows clipboard.  Its Pause command (shift + Ctrl +
spacebar) restarts where you stopped it, it has several different voices to
select from, and the speeds can be adjusted.  Its drawback is that it is
limited by the size of the clipboard.  It works fine for reading messages
and small files but e-books have to be copied to the clipboard a few
chapters at a time.  There are several other programs similar to ReadPlease
that work the same way and let you read the original text file without
converting it.  I believe they are ideal for people with low vision who do
not need a real speech program.
