Hi to all.

David:

1) All audio, regardless of whether it is streaming or podcast, does download to your system as temporary files which go away once you exit the podcast or stream. The reason that the .mp3 file type is showing up in your Windows Media address for these files is because that is the file type that these files are being sent out to your computer in, and you haven't identified another meadia player on which to play them in your system.

2) Whether or not the streams you listen to require the downloading of the Adobe Flash player has absolutely nothing to do with the use of the Windows Media player or its formats. In fact, if you listened to these streams through your browser, you would be required to download the Adobe Flash player anyway unless it was already installed on your system (most systems have it). There are ways to listen to some radio stations and webcasters without browsers or Flash player installations through sites such as

http://www.billsparks.org

http://www.radio-locator.com

and

http://www.vtuner.com

but not all radio stations or webcasters are willing to have their direct streaming links published in such places (Clear Channel Communications is notorious for this).

Good luck, and I hope I have answered your questions.

Hi VICUG members,
I have a couple issues regarding listening to radio or podcasts online.
1. I am running Windows Media player, and wonder why some podcasts
come up as MP3? Is there a way to listen via the browser so they don't
remain on the hard drive? How do I erase them from the hard drive?

2. Some radio online seem to require install of Adobe Flash Player. Is
that a result of WMP being the priority listening means? If I say
yes, then a questionnaire comes up leading to yet something else.
The resolution has been - use a third party site like tunein.com if
the station is available at the given time on that media outlet.

Thanks for the help. Perhaps listening through the browser only is best..
Sincerely,
