I'm not exactly sure what you're asking with your first question, but
last I knew you couldn't upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 at all,
regardless of whether you were running a screen reader or not. If you
want to upgrade, you'd have to upgrade to Windows Vista and then to
Windows 7. I believe there's an option where Windows 7 will try to
reinstall the applications you had when running Windows XP, but I don't
know how accessible this is. My advice would be to do a fresh reinstall.
This may take longer but should result in fewer headaches down the road.
There are ways to set up automated installs, but I've never used them,
and I think someone else has already weighed in on that question.
