A lot of people say they do OK on Synthroid alone. They may be right. It
may be the ones who aren't doing well on Synthroid alone are more likely to be
posting on the Internet looking for solutions.
That being said, it's not unusual for a person to say they are doing fine on
Synthroid, then rattle off several symptoms they still have that they don't
think are thyroid related. The fact is hypothyroidism can cause just about
anything to go wrong.
There's also a tendency to try to blame problems on something other than the
thyroid, and that's understandable. After all, not every problem is caused by
low thyroid. When I had sleep apnea, had I the energy to think, I might have
gone back into our archives and found several people who found it went away
with thyroid treatment, and upped my dose long before I dd. I made the mistake
of believing the doctor that my thyroid was treated so well because the labs
were great. When my son had undiagnosed and unrecognized hypothyroidism, I
posted questions here about appetite. People told me not to worry. But, that
turned out to be a thyroid symptom that went away quickly on Armour. Who would
have thought something that looked like anorexia could by hypothyroidism?
Some people try Armour and go back to Synthroid and think they are doing
better. They may be right. Other times, people just don't understand the extent
of their thyroid problem.
