RedFlagsdaily is an interesting website for medical news from someone who
used to work for ABC News. It was brought to my attention by one of the people
who runs the site thyroidhistory.net, also a very good site.

Dr. David Derry published a book called "Breast Cancer and Iodine" because he
believes a daily drop of Lugol's solution can prevent many kinds of cancer.
I don't have time to analyze this article (and maybe not the ability) , but
Anthony G. Payne, N.M.D., Ph.D., M.D. (hon.) seems also to think there is a
metabolic answer to cancer. It involves thyroid hormone, which was part of Dr.
Derry's understanding also.

Interesting also is mention that the Stone Age Diet has been found in at
least one study to boost thyroid levels. Part of the reason that's interesting is
because Broda Barnes, in his book published in 1973 considered a low carb,
high protein diet to be best for hypos, but thought when on it we needed to
increase Armour Thyroid because for some reason it made us more hypothyroid, but
allowed us to lose weight. (I read recently that fat absorbs iodine and causes
it to be excreted from the system, I think maybe that's the reason it makes
us hypo, unless we increase our iodine or thyroid hormone intake.) I'm not
sure if the Stone Age Diet differs from Atkins, but it may be worth it to see if
there is a difference. I know I can easily lose on the Atkins method.

I pasted the part about melatonin to see if anyone knew the mechanism of
melatonin. I have low cholesterol, which I think means I have a problem
processing fats, does what they say regarding melatonin and fat transport mean that
taking melatonin is probably not good for someone like me?

Thyroid
Exogenous thyroid hormone should contribute to the achievement of desired
(oncolytic) objectives by: (1) increasing hepatic removal and degradation of
cortisol, which brings about plasma reductions of same; and (2) stimulating ATPase
activity (so as to "waste" ATP).

The lipolytic activity of thyroid hormone should be offset by the
anti-lipolytic effects of insulin and prostaglandin E1.

It should be noted that the diet proposed experimentally herein (See Dietary
Guidelines section below) which closely mirrors the paleodiet (Stone Age
Diet), has been found to boost thyroid levels in one published study (University Of
Illinois At Urbana-Champaign is the original source)

Melatonin
The pineal-synthesized hormone melatonin is a fatty acid transport inhibitor
(10). Depriving tumor cells of metabolically useful fatty acids is an
important component of the MOR.
