1. Some people need to go on Atkins for a couple weeks and then go off for
a couple weeks in order to lose weight.

If you had no weight loss from the beginning, something is wrong.

Either you're eating too many carbs (and shouldn't even eat the daily salad
he suggests even on the induction phase), or

You're on medication (e.g. antideressants, estrogen) that Atkins says cannot
easily be overcome on his diet.

2. High cortisol makes people fat. You can see the belly fat commercials
on TV, it also tends to put a buffalo hump between your shoulder blades, and
give you a "moon face." (Not quite sure if that means round and fat or
something else.)

Have you had your cortisol levels tested? It's partly a timing issue, so if
it was high enough where a doctor added a 24 hour urine test to make sure
you didn't produce large amounts of cortisol all day long, even if he
decided you didn't have Cushing's the timing of the cortisol production in
short term but large amounts can also cause weight problems.

I didn't mention Prednisone, and if you saw Jerry Lewis all bloated in his
later years it was because he was on that awful stuff. Some people do have
low adrenals and need 5 mg of hydrocortisone 4 times per day. That's an
amount normal to your body.

No one should ever be on Prednisone, except in life threatening cases, and
then only if the doc isn't willing to give hydrocortisone, which he should
try at low doses, not huge ones like they tend to give with Pred. Pred and
HC are not the same thing. HC is a bio-identical hormone. Pred is one
altered so they can patent it.
