Michael Pollan, who teaches at UC Berkeley, has received a lot of publicity for
his new book, "The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals."

The Monthly
July 2006, 36(10)
Article: Food Pyramid/Food Warrior by Paul Kilduff
pp 11-13

He was recently interviewed in "The Monthly", a free newspaper distributed in
the SF bay area. He is very critical of organics and Whole Foods markets. Some
quotes:

"...the term 'free-range' is nothing more than an 'empty pastoral conceit'. He
also faults Whole Foods and other supermarkets for selling organic food grown
thousands of miles away that's 'drenched in diesel fuel' used to ship it to the
store."

"Actually cooking may be the key to reconnecting with our food, and ultimately
the planet."

"Pollan dabbled in vegetarianism a while for journalism's sake while writing
Omnivore, but makes a 180 degree turn later in the book..."

Pollan notes that Wal-Mart plans to start carrying organic foods, and that will
probably force the prices down at Whole Foods aka Whole Paycheck.
