First, I hate these embedded AOL messages where the heart of the matter is buried
down 6 or 7 levels. Add that on top of my security settings that require attachments
to be approved two of three times each... Well you get the idea...
So there are (at least) two things that cause the problem...
Lazyness or inexperience on the part of the sender that keep things so embedded,
OR,
Some of the file types are allowed to be opened in your e-mail program directly
with a minimum of fuss... (While others are blocked by MS.)
You can try to educate your friends. (Good luck, I just managed to talk some
of mine into Anti-virus software, and only because they were severely infected...)
OR,
Try this...
When you can't open one of these attachments, forward that message to yourself.
(Don't send it, just start a forward.) A first level attachment will open there most
times regardless of file extension.
For nested messages, you have to keep this up until you get dizzy and/or lost...
I do not play those games anymore, and trash this type of garbage from those
types of users... YMMV FYI My solution my not be suitable for you...

> I do NOT subscribe to AOL. I am a Comcast.net cable subscriber and have no trouble receiving E mail except from AOL subscribers -
sometimes. About half of E mail with attachments received from AOL members (in all cases, I believe they are "Forwarded" items)will
not open when I click on the paper clip. In several cases, I have received several E mails from one member, sent one after the
other, each with an attachment and some will open, some wont. And the AOL member later stated that they were all sent the same way.
I receive E mail via Comcast.net / Outlook Express / Win 98 on a Dell PC. HELP, please!!
