Hi,
    I've encountered this problem before & found that it was either caused
by the 1) video driver or 2) a program that is still open. The 1st one was
easily remedied by reinstalling the video driver. The second one I found out
was my fax program. When I had Hot Fax it wouldn't close, even with the
system shutdown, when it received an incomplete call (Ex.: Data call on fax
only line). I resolved that by going to WinFax Pro 8.0 and found that it
would sometimes hang when left in auto receive mode. Hope some of this
helps.
