When you install Adobe Reader, two pieces actually get installed.  One
is the standalone Reader application, and the other is the browser
plugin which takes control of the display window when your browser
fetches content that is in PDF format.  So what your browser does when
you try to "Print" is up to the Adobe plugin when the content is a PDF
file.
  There are third-party PDF viewers out there -- or at least, links that
claim to download such programs.  But several of them seem to advertise
heavily via spam, so I wouldn't trust them to only do what they claim --
use only at your own risk!

That is wonderful that it is only an adobe issue, but I do not see how
adobe would alter the web browswr's ability to print just from the
browser print icon and why all programs still print correctly, even if I
chose a print friendly version within the browser as well?
