Greetings:
I have a computer that sometimes freezes at startup. This is recent, but is
becoming more frequent. It appears to boot normally, but when bootup is
complete the mouse will not activate any programs/applications. The mouse
moves but clicking on an icon gets nothing. Control/alt/delete does nothing
either. All I can do is shut down using the power switch. Upon reboot
scandisk runs and sometimes even then the computer will not reboot properly,
and I have to shut down and start over again. Friday it took three tires to
get a normal bootup to where things seemed to work properly. The computer
has 128 MB RAM, 350 MHZ PII processor, and runs Win98SE. I hope someone has
a fix. Thanks.

You say that this is recent. Have you installed any new software or hardware
onto your system, or make any changes to your system settings at all prior
to this behavior? You can run the system file checker to see if you have
any corrupted system files by going to Start/Run, type in sfc and click ok.
When the program opens select the first option to Scan the system files,
then click start. You will need to have the Windows98SE CD handy in case it
finds files that need to be restored.
