Try booting safe mode with networking, and if IE will run, run an online
malware checker if you/she have nothing locally for eradicating malwaver,
maybe start with the malicious software removal tool from M$. If successful,
make sure IE8 gets installed if it hasn't already been, and Firefox and/or
SeaMonkey, and Opera, and optionally Chrome and/or Safari. Then set something
other than IE as default web browser.
