Press control-H to enter the Replace mode and set the "find" to "^p^p"
without the quotes - this will look for two consecutive paragraph marks. In
the "replace" field place a single "^p" so that each instance of extra blank
lines will be deleted. Then press "Replace All" to execute the replacement.
You may need to press the button more than once depending on the number of
multiple blank lines in the text.
Once this is done, select all the paragraphs (you can use control-A to
select everything) and then format the paragraph to have 12pts space after -
or use whatever spacing you want between paragraphs. This should clean up
your document.
