In Audacity, go to Edit/Preferences/Audio IO tab - there you will find a
drop-down list of devices you can record from. The program is great, but it
does take some getting used to!

Thank you, Peter, for the reply.  I have tried to use Audacity but am unable
to discover how to input from the "line in" source to the computer.   I have
read the help files, but do not understand them.  
I get a "grayed out" mixer toolbar and see no way to select the "line in" as
a source.  I tried "New Project" and all the "inputs" without success.
Reckon I'm just missing something, but I don't know what.
