Good Morning Anne (-5 GMT),
--
I regularly use and highly recommend the following three registry cleaners:
Microsoft RegClean (Freeware) @
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=18924
ToniArt's EasyCleaner (Freeware) @
http://www.saunalahti.fi/tonihele/ecleane.htm
Iolo's System Mechaic (Shareware) @
http://www.iolo.com/index.htm
--
I also highly recommend the following registry compression utility:
Daniel's Werner's RegCompact (Freeware) @
http://www.tweakfiles.com/registry/regcompact.html or
http://www.winguides.com/downloads.php?guide=registry .
(Please note that these are mirror sites. Dan Werner's personal webpage @
http://talismanic.net/codeworld/regcompact is currently unavailable for
reasons unknown to me. The most recent release of RegCompact is v1.0).
--
I also use Norton Utilities WinDoctor to clean up the registry, broken
shortcuts and other pesky Windows bugaboos, but I don't believe it's
available as a shareware product. This is not to worry really, as it
rarely finds any problems that haven't already been discovered and fixed by
the three excellent registry cleaners listed above.

You didn't ask, but while on the topic of keeping Windows running straight
and true, I also highly recommend using Kevin Solway's (Australia) Clean
System Directory to rid your system directory of orphaned DLL files:
Clean System Directory (Freeware) @
http://www.theabsolute.net/sware/index.html#clnsys .

One final closing remark:
Since implementing sound software selection, installation and uninstallation
practices as well as regular tune-up and maintenance routines (including
judiciously using Microsoft's Windows Update), I can honestly say that all
my Windows installations on the many different machines I maintain run
simply rock solid without any problems whatsoever. None, nada, zip.
In this regard, Windows has almost become (dare I say it?) ... almost
boring! (Hmmmmm, maybe there's some bit of truth to the rumor that's been
bandied about the Web that Microsoft really did incorporate elements of
Linux code into its' OS updates... ;^)

Kind regards,
Jeffrey Ottie
