Can anyone give me a checklist of items I can do to cleanup my PC. It is running fairly slow and I have seen various ways people clean up machines but would like to have a concise routine I can follow.

I am running Windows XP Professional on a Gateway Pent 4 2.4GHz with 512mb ram.

I am very concerned with the Startup Programs....

If i run msinfo32.exe - Software Environment - Startup Programs

I get a list of 32 apps...are all of these running in the backround...some are obvious ie...virus software but others I have no clue what they would be for...How do I get rid of unwanted/needed items....
