Good morning all,

A friend of mine is running Win95 on a 333Mhz computer that also has MSIE5.
He has been experiencing problems when trying to run Microsoft's RegClean.

Specifically, RegClean gets about 2/3rd's the way through the "Scanning
Library Identifiers" sequence and then stops...for a long time. Also, the
"Cancel" option is grayed out so he can't interrupt the process.

He has the latest version (4.1a, build 7364.1) of RegClean, too.

The first thing I suggested is that he run Scandisk which uncovered no
errors. Next, thinking that one possible problem was related to MSIE5, I
had him "repair" it from the Control Panel's "Add/Remove Programs." This
still did nothing to help. I also had him run ToniArts "Easy Cleaner 1.7."
Although Easy Cleaner did find about 100 invalid references, which were
deleted, the RegClean problem had still not been corrected.

As a last resort -- very last -- I suggested having Win95 check to be sure
it's not missing or has corrupted some critical files. I am very reluctant
to do this due to possible conflicts/problems with running MSIE5, too.

Would anyone have some insight as to what the problem could be and how to
go about correcting it?

        Thanks.

        Brian
